The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn - Superstition Essays
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn - Superstition In the novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, there is a lot of superstition. Some examples of superstition in the novel are Huck killing a spider which is bad luck, the hair-ball used to tell fortunes, and the rattle-snake skin Huck touches that brings Huck and Jim good and bad luck. Superstition plays an important role in the novel Huck Finn. In Chapter one Huck sees a spider crawling up his shoulder, so he flipped it off and it went into the flame of the candle. Before he could get it out, it was already shriveled up. Huck didn't need anyone to tell him that it was an bad sign and would give him bad luck. Huck got scared and shook his clothes off, and turned in his tracks three times. He then tied a lock of his hair with a thread to keep the witches away. "You do that when you've lost a horseshoe that you've found, instead of nailing it up over the door, but I hadn't ever heard anybody say it was any way to keep of bad luck when you'd killed a spider."(Twain 5). In chapter four Huck sees Pap's footprints in the snow. So Huck goes to Jim to ask him why Pap is here. Jim gets a hair-ball that is the size of a fist that he took from an ox's stomach. Jim asks the hair-ball; Why is Pap here? But the hair-ball won't answer. Jim says it needs money, so Huck gives Jim a counterfeit quarter. Jim puts the quarter under the hair-bal l. The hair-ball talks to Jim and Jim tells Huck that it says. "Yo'ole father doan' know yit what he's a-gwyne to do. Sometimes he spec he'll go 'way, en den ag'in he spec he'll stay. De bes' way is tores' easy en let de ole man take his own way. Dey's two angles hoverin' roun' 'bout him. One uv'em is white en shiny, en t'other one is black. De white one gits him to go right a little while, den de black one sil in en gust it all up. A body can't tell yit which one gwyne to fetch him at de las'. But you is all right. You gwyne to have considable trouble in yo' life, en considable joy. Sometimes you gwyne to git hurt, en sometimes you gwyne to git sick; but every time you's gwyne to git well ag'in. Dey's two gals flyin' 'bout yo' in yo' life. One uv 'em's light en t'other one is dark. One is rich en t'other is po'. You's gwyne to marry de po' one fust en de rich one by en by. You wants to keep 'way fum de water as much as you kin, en don't run no resk, 'kase it's down in de bills dat you's gwyne to git hung." (Twain 19). Huck goes home and goes up to his room that night and Pap is there. In Chapter ten, Huck and Jim run into good luck and bad luck. The good luck was Huck and Jim finds eight dollars in the pocket of an overcoat. After dinner on Friday, they are lying in the grass, then Huck ran out of tobacco, so he went to the craven to get some, and finds a rattlesnake. Huck kills it and curled it up and put it on the foot of Jim's blanket. Night came and Jim flung himself on the blanket and the snake's mate was there, and it bit Jim on the heel. Jim tells Huck to chop off the snake's head, then skin the body of the snake and roast a peice of it. He took the rattles off and tied them to Jim wrist. Jim said it would help him. Huck says "I made up my mind I wouldn't ever take a-holt of a snake-skin again with my hands, now that I see what had come of it." (Twain 52). As one can see Superstition plays an important role in the novel Huck Finn. Huck killing the spid er which is bad luck, the hair-ball that tells fortunes, and the rattle-snake skin that Huck touched are examples that

heretability of attitudes essays
heretability of attitudes essays The Heritability of Attitudes After researching and reading The Heritability of attitudes- a Study of Twins done by James Olsen, Philip Vernon, Julie Harris, and Kerry Lang, a study done to test how attitudes are obtained in our personalities, the results seem to prove a point thought of for many years: that genetics and the individuals environment are the causes for how they develop their attitudes on subjects. This goes to support the nature nurture discussion and proves that they both play a leading role in attitudinal development among children. To begin we see that, as stated previously s this study was done to test heritability and environmental effects of attitudes by testing 195 sets of monozygotic twins and 141 sets of same sex dizygotic twins. It was conducted to try and answer the question whether attitudes in individuals are inherited genetically, or are environmental effects the cause of peoples opinions and attitudes on various subjects and topics. Prior to the test the scientists hypothesis was that attitudes are learned and caused by the environment and that attitudes develop through experience and are therefore determined by environmental factors (life experiences) Some of the major major themes played in the study included the nature/nurture debate, does environment affect attitudes, socio-cultural influence on children, and how does socio-cultural context affect development and individual differences in development. This study is of interest to me because being a twin, I like to see how twins are used to confirm of disprove tests and studies. I was also interested in the study as finding the cause of attitudes and various behaviors was of interest to me. These issues in the study seem to be of importance to society as they uncover much needed information regarding how peoples attitudes are formed, and be learning how they are indeed formed, we can begin to take a look...

Business Case & Moral Case for Diversity-Free-Samples-Myassignment
There is a need to portray a moral case for diversity that has something to do with the different direction for improvement in the Woolworth organizational bottom line. There is a need for improvement in the profitability measures of the Woolworth organization that is nevertheless to be wrong in their bottomline. The diversity in the business case needs to have several ove ing in the rate of shortage of the skills that has a talent for the wars. There are markets that are eventually diverse in the course of the diversion of the markets. There is a need to create a promotional innovation that helps in the creativity of the team. In this report, the organization that has been chosen to be evaluated through the different business care processes is Woolworth. The Woolworths supermarkets is considered as the Australian supermarket that helps in the grocery and the different supermarket chains that helps in the chains owned (Woolworths .au 2017). The organization is a retail one that has its headquarters in the South Wales in Australia and has made some of the brand people like the Brad Banducci that is the Director of the Australian supermarkets, earns revenue upto $42.132 billion (2015), and has the employees until 111000. The Woolworth organization is engaged in mostly selling of the different groceries and sells different stationery items like the DVDs and the magazines (Ashikali and Groeneveld 2015). The current operating stores have different supermarkets like the 968 and have additional convenience in carrying out the same logos in the stores. The store was founded in 1924 in September that lies under the name of the Wallworths bazaar ltd that is internationally known. Later it was internationally known that helps in the name of the internationally renowned Woolworth market. Initially it had no plan for overseas expansion but later it did expand to different parts of the world (Klopf, et al. 2017). There is a need to accelerate on the growth of the trading events that helps in the growth of the brand that is initially instigated. The shareholders are interested in accepting this accelerated brand growth that are involved in trading at a continuous operational pace. The interest of the consumers started a year back that helps in analyzing the sales of the operations (Dennissen, Benschop and van den Brink 2016). The research on the Woolworth is a retail chain on a high street that has a high street retail chain on the different stores that is nationwide and that has almost 30,000 staffs employed. The organization method needs to be maintained that has a mixture of full time and part time employees (Harvey and Allard 2015). It has been maintained that the top of the hierarchy is the head of the branch and then es the different employees. The management system of the Woolworth can somewhat be removed by the staffs as an informal hierarchical system that needs to be in an informal structure. The heads hardly interacted with the different employees and hence they were both unaware of each other, which was of great affects. The affects were in the application of the poor motivational methods. There is always a need for motivation for the staffs at the time of the recession that helps in motivating the different staffs (Kulik 2014). The employers has a large budget that is used for the recruitment of the different staffs that eventually wants to be hanged on for. The employees of the organization have to have something in order to bring out the best of their ability. They are often driven by money (Madera, Dawsonand Neal 2017). The salary is often not enough to keep an employee motivated at work but definitively the quality and the productivity of their work will eventually make them deteriorate it. The ultimate employee motivation has to be how to keep someone motivated in work. The use of the number of theories in the will eventually effects the management that has a great deal of the employee motivation that will be applied in the Woolworth. Motivating staffs is the most important responsibility of an organization and is the most difficult thing to be managed (Martà n Alcà ¡zar, Miguel Romero Fernà ¡ndez and Sà ¡nchez Gardey 2013). There were a large number of part time employees in the Woolworth branch in order to make the mon young employees view this and make them improved in their work field. Just like other organizations, there is a need for impressing the management that will be the best of their ability to keep their job safe. The key factor of the opinion is to make a low quality in the services so that a key factor b es the ultimate failure in the Woolworth group of organizations. The staffs when are not motivated it will eventually affect the customers and their feedback will be poor. This will ultimately put a bad reputational mark on the growth of the pany. The emphasis was therefore imposed to change the management on the effected motivations (Olsen and Martins 2016). The moral case in thee Woolworth organization is that they are more aware of their particular reputation in the particular panies that they might will to serve and share as well. The Directorial boards have to be involved with the development of the vision that may be corporated in producing the different statements. These statements will be presented with the form of an image that can be used for the public good for being a caring employer in their caring organization (Olsen and Martins 2016). The best practices that can be used for managing the diversity can diversity that needs to beà incorporated in the different appropriate circumstances with the use ofà the different techniques and the methods that will be formed. The leadership in the top mitment is a visionary demonstration of the different municative method that has a diversity strategic plan that is based on the development and the alignment (Pauly 2016). All these things need to be incorporated in the strategic plan of the organizations. There is a need to link the diversity with the performance that helps in understanding the diversity and the inclusive work environment that can yield a more great productivity that will help in the improvement in the performance of the Woolworth. The measurement can be a set of the different qualitative and the quantitative mode of the measurement that has an impact on the different aspects of the overall diversity plan (Soulat and Nasir 2017). Accountability ensures that the leaderââ¬â¢s wide diverse plans that will help them to provide a linkage with their performance level of the assessment. The pensation programs have to have a diversity initiative. The planning has to have a succession that is a based on the strategies and the ongoing process that is identified with the talent pool (Trittin and Schoeneborn 2015). The Woolworth hence produces organizational potential leaders of the future. The Woolworth is a supermarket in Australia and is a food retailer that has a huge annual turnover.à The pany trades from different parts of the world and has an employment to thousands of people. There is a need for equal opportunity for the scope of employment (Vidal et al. 2013).à Many awards and recognition have been addressed to the organization. Woolworth has now taken up the approach that needs to be formulated in the pen and paper form in the pany (Pauly 2016).à The organization is also developing on the various factors that needs to bee modified. The result that has been treated in the Woolworth organization is somewhat similar to the policies of the business and the moral case studies. The result will be as same treated with the different organizational interest of the public's that has two different pillars, one is the long term relationship between the pany and the employee that needs to be built (Ashikali and Groeneveld 2015) The results that will be derived wil l eventually help in the developing approaches in the organization. This study is based on the different role and the diversity in the employment management that will help in the improvement of the Woolworths organization. This study will ultimately reveal the diversity management between the employees and their involvement in the impact of their innovation in their organization. A data was collected from the different 844 respondents who said that there are different large organizations that have applied in the SPSS version to analyze the data. The involvement and the diversity of the employee are to show the negative impact on the organizational employment and their innovation. There is a need to trigger the organizational innovational ou e so that it ultimately enhances the Woolworths organizations. The insight reflects that how the productivity can be increased through the innovational productivity by using the human resources properly. In the field of the HRM management research, an outline may be drawn on the different formal organizational practice programs. The research includes the different methodologies that need to be measured by the employee perceptions in the different diversity management activities. There is a need to demonstrate on the impacts of the diversity management that reflects primarily on the employee reactions and their identification with the different unit levels. A below line research has been made that do not directly answer the HR professionals that is mostly based on the HR activities that is required to be adopted. Eventually, it will explain the impacts of the different formal organizational diversity activities that need to be reported by the documented and the senior managers in the records of the organization. The Woolworth organization can easily be linked with this research paper based on the bottom line theory as per the basics of the HR management From this research paper it can be concluded that the role of the cultural and the employee diversity has a plete variation on the innovation of the organization. There isà a need of the human resource theories and their tenets that is primarily based on the resource based view of the Woolworth firm. There is a need for the influence of the racial diversity that is in the managerial ranks. A conceptualization of the different DEM practices needs to be made on the size of the moderating role in the relationship rank of the Woolworth organization. The theoretical and the practical implications for the different perspectives of the strategy is based on the future diversity management. Just like the other organizations the racial diversity is also practiced in Woolworths and that helps the employees to concentrate on their work more appropriately. The increasing globalization requires the interaction on the different diverse backgrounds that is present in an organisation. People now work as a part of the global economy, that has b e more diversified with time. So, here es the need of the various non profitable and profitable organisations to b e diversified in order to sustain in the global market of petition. The ultimate aim of an organization is to maximize their level of profit in the workplace diversity. This article is effectively designed that helps the managers to understand the effectiveness of the diversified workplace. The different benefits of the challenges of a workplace that also has different effective strategies needs to be well pointed. In the Woolworth organisation these diversity of the workplace is well maintained that has newly evaluated the different challenges and the benefits that will be of some use to the customers. The management is a social discipline that needs to be dealtà with the different types of the behavior of a person and that also includes the human insights. In this article the workforce management of the diversity is explained and also how it has positive and negative effects on the organisation. Woolworth is such a multi national super market organisation that needs to manage diversity in order to maintain peace and a good pace of the work environment in the organisation. This journal article is all about what are the benefits and the usefulness of the diversity management. Diversity training is required that is often a trigger in the conflict in the workplace area that has its lawsuits as well by making the employees pelled to make them talk to each other even. There are often the misinterpreted concepts that need to be well perceived that is based on the moral case of the different discriminatory intents in the organization. There is a need for prevention of this similar case and a linkage should be enhanced to make it for better works. From the above report, it can be well concluded that an initial linkage between the moral and the business case has been well evaluated. The chosen organization is the Woolworth, which is an Australian based pany that is primarily one of the top retail super markets. The role of the human resource management as a part of the integral part of the organization has been introduced but in a small portion.à At the end, it can be stated that there is a need for the different types of the diversity that will help in the prosperity of the organization. Learning Theorie - Research Paper Example This learning theory then is closely linked to pragmatist philosophy, as they both articulate the world in this constructive lens. There are a variety of ways that constructivist learning theory can be implemented in training. The extent that constructivism can be implemented in learning is dependent on the extent that it is embraced by the instructional designer. In this way radical constructivists believe that all knowledge should be instructed through these methods. Still, in most use constructivism is implemented as a means of instructing higher order thinking skills. In these instances, more traditional instruction methods face great challenges in encapsulating the varieties of information. Specifically, constructivist techniques rely largely on shared interactions between students. In this way studentsââ¬â¢ divergent understandings of subject matter are integrated into a construction of reality. In other instances, students engage in applications of knowledge that simulate real-world situations; in these instances, the studentsââ¬â¢ interaction with the real world situation contributes to their know ledge

Holistic Care in Relation to Adult Nursing and Child Nursing Essay
Holistic Care in Relation to Adult Nursing and Child Nursing - Essay Example This study will focus on discussing the significance of holistic care in relation to adult nursing and child nursing. As part of discussing the significance of holistic care in adult and child nursing, some real-life clinical examples will be provided when practicing spirituality in holistic care for adult and child patients. Eventually, several reasons will be provided as to why nurses should exert an effort to incorporate spirituality when giving holistic care to the patients. Significance of Holistic Care in Relation to Adult Nursing and Child Nursing Holistic care is all about being able to deliver caring service that will uplift not only the physical health of the patients but also their mental, social, psychological, emotional, and spiritual well-being (Broker and Nicol, 2003, p. 4). There are quite a lot of similarities and differences with regards to the provision of holistic care to adult and child patients. Similar to child nursing, the adult nursing aims to promote a healt hy lifestyle and prevent diseases. Before planning, delivering, and evaluating the quality of healthcare services given to each patient, holistic care in adult nursing and child nursing aims to identify the specific healthcare needs of the patients (Broker and Nicol, 2003, p. 4). ... that the family members are experiencing when taking care of an adult patient who has insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, the family members are more stressed out when caring for children who are suffering from chronic disease (Hobson and Noyes, 2011). Since the parents of the child has other important obligation to do during day time, it is expected that the childââ¬â¢s parents will be experiencing excessive stress when taking care of a sick child. Therefore, healthcare professional should incorporate the practice of spirituality when providing holistic care to a child patient. Healthcare professionals should consider all possible interventions that can effectively improve such resilience. For instance, when dealing with young patients, healthcare professionals should develop a balanced coping strategy that will allow the parents of a sick child to maintain a good physical and mental health and meet the medical and emotional needs of the child (Major, 2003). By doing so, the nur ses will be able to make the family members easily cope with the childââ¬â¢s chronic illness. Examining how the patientââ¬â¢s family function will also make it easier on the part of the nurse(s) to gain better idea on how they can effectively manage or lessen the physical and emotional stress that the parents and the childââ¬â¢s siblings may be experiencing in times of dealing with the patientââ¬â¢s chronic disease. Upon developing a list of effective nursing intervention, healthcare professionals could more or less be able to lessen and minimize the chances wherein the family members would experience negative emotions such as anger and depression. Another good way of providing spirituality in holistic care is for the healthcare professionals to be able to identify the risk factors that may trigger

The Merchant of Venice Essay Example for Free
The Merchant of Venice Essay The Merchant of Venice tittle has been carefully chosen and it is apt and suggested. There has been some controversy among the critics that the tittle belong to Shylock or Antonio. This controversy arose because in the first entry the play had been named The Merchant of Venice or The Jew of Venice. Later on the double tittle disappeared and it was named The Merchant of Venice. So critics supposed that it is Shylock who is real merchant of Venice and the play is slightly named after him. They pointed out that Antonio is passive and has a colorless personality in the play and remains in the background with very little appearance on the stage, whereas Shylock has a dominant role in the play. Therefore it is said that Shakespeare must have had the Jew in his mind and not Antonio while naming the play. However a superficial reading of the play makes it clear that Antonio is the real merchant of Venice. His name is referred repeatedly as the royal merchant and good Antonio and also in the main trail scene Portia asked pointedly which is the merchant which is the Jew. From the beginning of the play Antonio is presented as a rich merchant and a world trader who sent argosies to various countries. On the other hand Shylock is never referred to as a merchant but sketched as an usurer and a cruel money lender. Though Antonio is a passive figure we can say that the play is rightly named after him. It was Antonios action that gave rise to the plot of the drama and indirectly he is related to the casket story, the second main plot of the drama. The bond story rises directly out of his execution of the bond. The casket story is indirectly but vitally related to him as he is the person who enters into the bond, borrows money from Shylock and helps Bassanio to reach Belmont as a suitor. In the final scene the battle is fought over his fate and every incident of the play converges this scene. Hence the play can be aptly be called The Merchant of Venice after him.

Andy Warhol Essay -- Pop Art Andy Warhol Artist Essays
Andy Warhol Works Cited Missing "I just paint things I always thought were beautiful, things you use every day and never think aboutâ⬠¦ I just do it because I like it. (Beckris 110) I just do it because I like it is Andyââ¬â¢s philosophy on life. Andy might just be the most interesting and at the same time the most confusing individual you will ever read about. Andyââ¬â¢s work is like none others. His art brought common day people together and showed the impact of contemporary society and the idea of mass media on values. Andyââ¬â¢s father Ondrej Wharhola is best described as a bald, burly man with a bulging belly and massive upper arms, pudgy nose and bristling sideburns. Ondrej was born in 1889 in Minkova. (Bekris, 6) He was married and living with Julia Warhola, mother of Andy, for three years in Mikova. In order to avoid being drafted into the Balkan conflict in 1912 he immigrated to Pittsburgh without her at the age of seventeen to work in a coal field in the industrial district of Philadelphia. ( Bekris, 7) Julia Warhola was born in a small village in the Capathian mountains outside of Czechoslovakia. Julia was the oldest and prettiest of her fifteen other siblings. She was also said to be the artistic one of the bunch. (Bekris, 7) In 1914 Julia gave birth to a baby girl. Because of the conditions due to the war the infant contracted influenza six months later and died. Juliaââ¬â¢s mother was so depressed about the news of the infants death that she died one month later. (Bekris, 8-9) Julia was now reliable for her only two surviving sisters of ages six and nine. For the next four years Julia fled from the soldiers, hiding in woods and barns. She was supposed to be receiving money from Ondrej but because she was always on the run she never saw the money. From 1918-1921 she raised 160 dollars to go to the united states to find Ondrej. (Bekris, 9) Andy Warhol was born on September 28, 1930 in Forest City, Pennsylvania. Or so we think. This is what the original birth certificate read but Andy wanted people to believe he was born in Mc Keesport, or even Hawaii. He also stays true to believe the certificate is a forgery. Most books and other reportable sources confirm that he was indeed born in 1930 but the dates do range from 1925-1931 (Bekris, 10). Andy was raised in a coal mining town in Philadelphia. It was a dark musty town were the sky stayed black. The to... ... 10pm and at 4am on Sunday February 22, Min Chou, the private nurse who had been selected by the hospital from a registry, took Andyââ¬â¢s blood pressure and found it stable. She gave a progress report to the chief surgical resident by telephone at 11pm; presumably while the patient slept. At 5:45am Ms. Chou noticed that Warhol had turned blue and his pulse had weakened. Unable to waken him she summoned the floor nurse who in the words of a colleague, "almost had a stroke" A cardiac arrest team began resuscitation efforts but according to hospital sources, had difficulty putting a tube in Warholââ¬â¢s windpipe because rigor mortis had started to set in. At 6:31am the artist was pronounced dead. The art world suffered a great lose with the death of Andy Warhol. His personal style will always move forward touching and changing peopleââ¬â¢s lives every day. Andy was a one of a kind and will never be recreated. To understand his art is a feeling many people over look. It is an every day reminder that we donââ¬â¢t take the time to look at what goes on around us. Now when I walk I wont just look down but all around me. At the trees, clouds, bricks under my feet, and the entire world moving around me.
